DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum is pleased to announce the appointment of Linda Hammett Ory as President of its Board of Trustees, effective June 1, 2016. Ms. Hammett Ory assumes the position from Gerard Frank, who will remain on the Board in an advisory capacity one additional year. Ms. Hammett Ory is currently a town of Lincoln elected member of the Board and is Chair of the Landscape Committee, as well as serving on the newly reformed Strategic Planning Committee. Linda Hammett Ory joined the Board of Overseers at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in May of 2006, and was appointed as a Trustee in 2011. In addition to her role in planning the Park’s future and being instrumental in forming the landscape committee, Ms. Hammett Ory’s extensive involvement with deCordova over the past five years makes her an exceptional choice to ensure the continuity of deCordova’s mission and efforts to become the premiere sculpture park in the United States.

Mr. Ravenal expressed his delight with the new appointment: “I could not be more pleased with the selection of Linda Hammett Ory as the next President of the Board of Trustees. Those who know her have great respect for her leadership abilities, her keen intelligence, and her great passion for art and landscape. She is the perfect person to take deCordova to the next level as we enter a new strategic planning phase and look forward to an even brighter future.”

Current Board President Mr. Frank said, “Linda will provide deCordova with fine leadership starting this summer 2016. Linda displays an obvious joy and enthusiasm for deCordova. She has already proven her great leadership ability: chairing the Landscape Committee, her and her family’s generous giving to the institution, and acting as a fine ambassador to the Museum by promoting all that the institution has to offer to the greater Boston community. Additionally, Linda is a great consensus builder. She’s a great listener and will work well to be inclusive of all the Museum’s constituents as the institution moves forward with its strategic plan to further the vision of the Board under the executive director, John Ravenal.”

Ms. Hammett Ory brings to deCordova her experience in the arts, education and landscape care. Her first career was as a choreographer working for stage, screen and music video. Later, she transitioned her passions to education, receiving a master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education followed by a career producing children’s educational media and a decade of volunteering as a Girl Scout leader. Ms. Hammett Ory’s undergraduate degree is from Harvard University where she studied psychology and art. She lives in Lincoln, Massachusetts with her husband and three children.

Ms. Hammett Ory said, “I am delighted to serve as President of the Board of Trustees during this time when deCordova continues to make its mark in the art world with innovative programming for families and art lovers with world-class sculpture sited in its remarkable landscape.”
