Head of the Corporate Program
The DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, located just outside Boston in Lincoln, Massachusetts seeks an experienced, innovative and energetic professional to provide strategic leadership and direction for the Museum’s Corporate Program.
DeCordova is the only major museum in the region dedicated exclusively to modern and contemporary American art. The Museum’s beautiful 35-acre sculpture park is the largest of its type in the region, and DeCordova also operates an active studio art school which attracts 3,500+ students per year. The DeCordova has a FT staff of 36 and a $4.5 million operating budget. In addition to an ambitious program of special exhibitions, the Museum holds a permanent collection
The Corporate Program is both a critical part of the DeCordova’s outreach as well as an important revenue stream for the institution. Corporate Member companies receive a range of Member benefits including unlimited Museum admission for all employees, Store @ DeCordova discounts, and at higher financial levels of Membership, an art loan exhibition of two-dimensional artwork at their facility. Exhibitions are professionally installed by Corporate Program staff and upon Member renewal, are rotated annually. The artworks provided by the Corporate Program are on loan from regional contemporary artists as well as the Museum’s Permanent Collection. The Program currently has more than one hundred corporate members and eight hundred artworks on loan.
The Head of the Corporate Program, reporting to the Director of External Affairs, is responsible for the marketing, growth, and implementation of this important revenue source for the museum. He/she will be responsible for cultivating new members, growing relationships with existing member companies, and ensuring that the quality of the program in all regards meets Corporate Program needs and represents the DeCordova’s interests. S/he will collaborate with staff across the museum to develop creative strategies to position the Corporate Program to reach its fullest fundraising potential.
The incumbent oversees two FT and two PT staff and will also be responsible for special events for Corporate Program members. The Head of the Corporate Program is a senior member of the External Affairs/Development staff of the museum. He/she has significant financial responsibilities and must excel at forging personal and professional relationships on behalf of the DeCordova.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Bachelors degree in Art History or a related field, MA preferred
- Experience in a commercial gallery or corporate collection; sales experience a plus
- Extensive knowledge of and/or connections with the regional art community
- Previous experience in budgeting and demonstrable success at hitting financial targets
- Prior experience managing staff
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A passion for modern and contemporary art
- Sense of humor, hugely energetic, and a predilection for working fluidly and collaboratively
