Ornamental Art VII
A Jewelry Event at The Store @ DeCordova
April 16 – May 9, 2006
Reception Sunday, April 16, 2-4 pm
LINCOLN, MA—In its continuing effort to promote the very best work being created by America’s craft artisans, The Store @ DeCordova announces Ornamental Art VII, the latest in a series of exhibitions highlighting the work of some of the finest artists and designers creating jewelry today. Join us for an opening reception on Sunday, April 16 from 2 – 4 pm to celebrate these artists—and a chance to ornament yourself in a new way. The exhibition and sale continue through May 9.
Former DeCordova instructor Marcia MacDonald uses carved and painted wood, sterling silver, pearls, and found objects to create what can only be termed “sculptures to wear.” Her combination of materials and messages make these pieces as thought-provoking as they are envy-inducing.
Elisa Bongfeldt’s sleek and sophisticated sterling and gold jewelry has the timeless appeal of 20th (and 21st!) century design. Abstract elements combined with architectural precision offer the wearer the option of hand-crafted jewelry to accessorize that power suit.
Local artist Chihiro Makio uses delicate hand–beading on the edges of her remarkable metal floral forms to fashion her unique necklaces and pins. These fantasy blossoms may not have a scent to charm the nose – but are certain to catch the eye of all passers-by.
The regular hours for The Store @ DeCordova are:
Monday – Thursday, 9:30 am – 7:30 pm
Friday – Saturday, 9:30 am – 5:30 pm
