DeCordova’s Annual Art in the Park Festival and Art Sale
Sunday, June 10, 2007 from 10 am to 5 pm
LINCOLN, MA—Kick off the summer by spending it outdoors at DeCordova’s 22nd Annual Art in the Park Festival and Art Sale! Peruse and purchase unique, handmade artworks by over 100 New England artists, who were selected for their original high-quality designs. Let your creative impulses flow by participating in hands-on art activities including T-shirt painting, dream catches, mosaics, clothespin creations, and more! Enjoy culturally rich performances that feature Blues, Folk, Pop, and traditional music of Latin America, as well as magic and performance acts that encourage audience participation.
Art in the Park is free for Members and Corporate Members; $12 for adults and children 15 and up; $10 for seniors and children 2–14; age 2 and under are admitted free. Admission includes entry into the Museum. No passes are accepted for this event. Art in the Park is held rain or shine and please, no pets are allowed.
All parking is free and at Reservoir Place in Waltham (Exit 28 off of Route 128). No parking will be allowed on the DeCordova grounds or in Lincoln. Instead, Boston Properties will provide free parking at Reservoir Place, located at the Trapelo Road/Lincoln exit (Exit 28) off Route 128/I-95. Doherty's Garage in Lincoln will provide free shuttle service between DeCordova and Reservoir Place from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. Parking is limited so please carpool if you can.
Since DeCordova began Art in the Park in 1985, it has evolved into one of the largest outdoor art sales in Greater Boston. Over 100 of New England’s finest artists and artisans are selected for their original high quality designs. A variety of artwork in a range of prices will be for sale, including paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and photographs. Visitors will also find one-of-a-kind crafts in both contemporary and traditional styles, including ceramics, hand-blown glass, furniture, jewelry, fiber art, and more.
Art in the Park Festival visitors will enjoy a day filled with music, children’s performances, hands-on art activities, and food. Each year, DeCordova strives to find experienced and emerging regional musicians and performers to entertain, delight, and amuse Festival visitors.
Scheduled Performances include:
10 am – 11 am: Jaded Mandolin is a quartet of Boston-area teens wielding mandolins, fiddles, rich vocal harmonies, and an uncanny ability to play traditional folk music and bluegrass originals, Jaded Mandolin is a band on the rise.
11 am – noon: SteveSongs blends participatory songs, clever stories, and great melodies into an experience that leads young listeners on what The Boston Globe calls “not just a musical journey but an entertaining, interactive, and educational one.
Noon – 1 pm: Bonaparte, Boston’s Hottest Magician will dazzle, astound, and visitors should be prepared to laugh! Bonaparte’s whimsical magic has amazed audiences worldwide, and is appreciated and appropriate for kids and adults, alike.
1 – 2 pm: Eddie Kirkland is one of the original Blues men, Eddie Kirkland has traveled the world for decades bringing the Blues to the people. He has worked with such greats as Otis Reading and Little Richard; his music is creative and sincere, pure Blues. Do not miss this opportunity to see him at DeCordova!
2 – 4 pm: Elisa Korenne’s rich alto voice and songwriting skills as she sings in a variety of styles. From rock to pop with touches of jazz and soul, CD Baby proclaims her “One of the best we’ve ever heard.
4 – 5 pm: Inca Son, a trio of musicians, will play traditional music of the Andes of Peru and Latin America, as well as original compositions. A recent winner of at the Independent Music Awards, their music and authentic attire are sure to captivate all ages.
Roaming: TEN31 Productions, Inc. is a favorite performer at DeCordova, this Providence-based crew of living statuary and human botanicals provides opportunities to—literally—interact with art.
When their appetites strike, visitors can choose from a variety of food and drink options. Art in the Park features a multitude of culinary delights and visitors are also welcome to bring their own picnic lunches.
Art in the Park provides opportunities for children (and adults!) to be inspired by the art around them, and to create their own works of art. The Festival will feature the following art activities:
- T-shirt Painting: Experience the fun of wearable art by creating a one-of-a-kind painted T-shirt with fabric paints! $5 per T-shirt.
- "Make Your Dad(s) a Card" with the Gropius House: Using multi-media, create your own greeting card(s) for Father's Day.
- Dream Catchers: Hang a new sculptural work in your home after you twist, tie, and weave a dream catcher. Use feathers and beads to add the final touches.
- Mosaics: Pick and choose from a vast array of different colored shapes and colored “tiles” to glue your own mosaic design.
- Clothespin Creations: Start with a clothespin and end up with an artful friend. Use ribbon, fabric, and yarn to design your buddy from head to toe!
- Community Landscape/Seascape: Join in with DeCordova’s friends to create a huge masterpiece within the Sculpture Park. We will supply the chalk, you bring your ideas!
- All activities are free with Festival admission unless otherwise noted
Art in the Park is supported in part by the Bolton Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. DeCordova is also grateful to Bright Horizons Family Foundation for their generous support as well as Doherty’s Garage for providing shuttle transportation.
General Information
DeCordova Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm and on selected Monday holidays. General admission during Museum hours is $9 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, students, and youth ages 6–12. Children age 5 and under, Lincoln residents, and Active Duty Military Personnel and their dependents are admitted free. The Sculpture Park is open year round during daylight hours. The Store @ DeCordova and the School Gallery are open Monday through Thursday, 9:30 am to 7:30 pm, Friday through Saturday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, and Sunday 11:30 am to 5:30 pm. The Café @ DeCordova is open Tuesday from noon to 3 pm, and Wednesday through Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. Free guided public tours of the Museum's main galleries take place every Thursday at 1 and Sunday at 2 pm.
