Art for April Vacation

Inspired by the brand new spring exhibition deCordova New England Biennial 2019 and Arbor Day, join us as we create large-scale woven and architectural sculpture experiences in various locations in our 30-acre Sculpture Park.

Designed for families with children ages 5–12, but all are welcome.
FREE with admission or membership. Children 12 and under are always free.

Inspired by Biennial artist Bhakti Ziek, create woven sculptures nestled in a wooded grove on deCordova’s campus. Experiment with fibers and found nature to create human-sized weavings anchored between the majestic pines.

Thursday, April 18
drop in 1–3 pm

Assemble a geodesic dome large enough to stand in. Inspired by Biennial artist Eli Brown’s greenhouse and audio recordings of intergenerational trans people sharing stories of their identity experiences, visitors of all ages are invited to reflect and share a story about themselves to post inside the dome.

Friday, April 19

Let’s celebrate how trees communicate with each other through complex root networks with the help of mushrooms. We will create vibrating sculptures to help us understand this exciting scientific phenomenon as we celebrate Arbor Day 2019.
