Arbor Day

In honor of Arbor Day, deCordova highlights its commitment to our Park landscape by partnering with the Massachusetts Arborist Association for a day of outdoor upkeep and programming focused on maintaining the health of the Sculpture Park's flora. Over a dozen arborists, led by Certified Consulting Arborist and MAA’s former president Carl Cathcart, will donate their services pruning, planting, cultivating, and more.

Arborists in the Park | 10 AM–2 PM
Experts from the Massachusettts Arborists Association are on site taking care of the Sculpture Park’s landscape.

Walk/Talk: Art and Trees | 11 AM
Explore outdoor sculptures and neighboring trees during this tour with Curator Samantha Cataldo and Horticultural Educator and Consultant Jen Kettell. 
For adults. Meet at the Museum entrance.

Informational Tables | 12–3 PM, drop in

Birch Bark Painting | 1–3 PM, drop in
Inspired by Thoureau’s love of birch groves, work with paint and paper to recreate this nature pattern.

Walk/Talk: Pricing the Priceless | 1:30 PM
Join arborist Christopher Pineau in the Park to discuss the value of trees.

Arbor Day falls during April Vacation Week, which features nature-inspired activities for the whole family. Families can drop in on birch bark painting from 1–3 pm on Arbor Day. Click here for details about April Vacation Week.
