Carole Bolsey

"For me, painting is gesture with the brush: action, motion, like drawing, but more physical and concrete. Superimposed gestures, strokes, and stains coalesce into a field, generating a space. The composition, the subject matter, the paint are one. The action is the painting; the action has begun elsewhere. It crosses the canvas, and is carried by its momentum out beyond the rectangle."
