Full Time Cafe Manager

Reporting to the Head of Visitor Services and Security, the Café manager is responsible for ensuring all Café visitors have an exceptional and memorable dining experience by delivering high quality food and beverage service with the highest level of hospitality and  customer contact.  The Café Manager ensures that the Café operates efficiently, safely, and adheres to all food service regulations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Oversees and participates in all daily café activities including, but not limited to, food preparation, point of sale tasks, opening and closing, and customer service.

  • Creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere through personal attention and maintains customer service standards through the development and delivery of ongoing training and coaching of staff.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with customers, soliciting feedback and suggestions on how to improve the Café experience.
  • Regularly reviews product quality and researches new vendors. Works with vendors to ensure timely delivery and minimal inventory. Controls operational costs and identify measures to cut waste.
  • Ensures staff coverage of the café at all times through hiring, scheduling, and accurate reporting.
  • Ensures compliance with sanitation and safety regulations, including staff training.
  • Develops, implements, and reviews policies and protocols that will maintain future operations.
  • Responds efficiently and calmly to customer complaints and difficult situations.
  • Retains and reports all financial records including invoices, department purchase orders, and other business transactions.
  • Works collaboratively with other museum staff to enhance the customer experience through coordinated programming with outside vendors including art exhibits, tastings, and music.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications include:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience and a minimum of 3 years of experience with full managerial responsibility of a restaurant or café operation that includes food preparation and staff management.
  • Strong and collaborative staff management skills, good judgment and decision making skills, the ability to manage time effectively and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to frequently transition from management responsibilities to front and back of the house responsibilities throughout the day.
  • A passion and knowledge of the hospitality and restaurant industry desired.
  • ServSafe certification, CPR Training and TIPs certification required.

This position requires working 4 weekend shifts per month or more as required. Physical requirements include standing, walking, reaching and bending for more than 50% of the day.  Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
