DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum is seeking full- and part-time associates to join its Visitor Services team. Reporting to the Head of Visitor Services and Security and the Café Manager, respectively, Visitor Services and Café Associates at deCordova provide a friendly and welcoming environment and maximize the visitor experience by providing orientation, information, resources, and amenities. Employees are hired into the Visitor Services department and provided with café training and flexible shifts based on personal interest and museum needs.

This well rounded, highly-visible position offers the opportunity to work in and gain exposure to multiple areas of museum operations. Our Visitor Services associates must have the flexibility and willingness to work in various positions within the department including the visitor station, front desk reception/information activities, Café operations, gallery assistance and general security.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Visitor Station activities: Meet and greet visitors, provide orientation to overall Park and Museum environment, offer Park maps and navigation information, and information about exhibitions and programs. Sell admissions; handle cash and credit card transactions at an efficient pace.
  • Front Desk Reception/Information activities: Meet and greet visitors; provide information about current and upcoming shows and programs. Help visitors navigate the Museum, offer floor plans, and make suggestions as to where they should start
  • Café operations: Set up and stock Café, carry out basic food preparation, provide warm service, make coffee drinks, handle cashiering, and maintain cleanliness.  Varied cleaning tasks, maintaining organization in the Café, and creating a good experience in a fast- paced environment are expected. Prior experience with food handling is preferred.
  • Gallery Assisting and General Security: Help protect the artwork: ensuring that visitors observe Museum Security policies through the use of exemplary guest service.
  • Other tasks as directed by the Head of Visitor Services and/ or Café Manager: This may involve helping to work Museum sponsored events such as exhibition openings and benefit events.

The ideal candidate will thrive on working in a collaborative environment and with the public, be passionate about contemporary art and museums, and be dedicated to providing an outstanding visitor experience. Candidates must also have exceptional communication and customer service skills, as well as the ability to interact with the public with grace and tact during high traffic cycles. Dependability and punctuality is required. Previous customer service or related experience is a plus.
